Match Report

The Wanderers travelled to Edinburgh this week to take on struggling Inverleith on a re-surfaced Peffermill pitch. After a disappointing draw against Hillhead the previous week, they were looking to take something from the game to add to their points tally.

They certainly looked the more likely team at the whistle, starting with high energy and enthusiasm. They had the majority of the possession, and created dangerous attacking opportunities, which were not converted by the youthful front line. This proved to be costly, as in a rare attack, an Inverleith player ran unchallenged into the Wanderers circle to slot the ball past keeper Paul Johnstone into the bottom corner. This did not deflate the Dundee side, and they continued their control of the game. They still could not put the ball in the opposition goal despite numerous chances, and once again Inverleith scored against the run of play to put them two up before the half.

The second half had much the same vibe, with Wanderers not being on the ball in the final third. Inverleith scored a third early in the second half. The visitors dug in, and did eventually manage to score their first courtesy of Richard Adleman from a loose ball during a short corner. Wanderers were not, however, able to push on from that and score a second, and the game finished 3-1 to the home side.

Another disappointing result away from home for the Wanderers outfit, against a side which before the game, hadn’t won and had only managed to put one point on the board. Despite this, they still sit with a fairly comfortable number of points at this stage, but will face tough opponents next week at home to Westerm Wildcats.
