Match Report | Wanderers travelled to Aberdeen to play Aberdeen Asset following a convincing win against Edinburgh Uni the previous week. Confidence was high within the team, as it was expected that the reds should walk away with all 3 points. It was no surprise then that Wanderers dominated from the outset. The Aberdeen outfit had a couple of scoring chances through fast breaks, but the Wanderers defence came out on top every time. Wanderers opened the scoring with an excellent reverse stick shot from Michael McKenzie, after he beat his man on the inside to make space for the shot. Allan Law made it two after a fantastic press gave the Aberdeen defence no outlet, giving Law the opportunity to take the ball round the keeper and finish it off. Wanderers continued to attack in numbers, which bore fruit when Bobby Ralph slotted one past the keeper to make it 3-0 before half time. The second half showed much of the same, with Aberdeen unable to mount much resistance to the Dundee team. Allan Law scored another for the visitors, this time from a short corner, his flick proving to be too much for the man between the sticks. Wanderers’ fifth goal also came from a short corner, but this one was slapped in by Marcus Schilling for Fergus Wilson to deflect in the goal, in his first game for the team. Aberdeen Asset were deflating with each goal scored, which showed in their defensive performance. Allan Law carved a path through the rear guard, before taking the ball round the keeper once again to grab his hat-trick. AAM did score a consolation when they were in a good position in the attacking circle, only to be awarded an extremely controversial penalty, which they converted. The Wanderers struck back with their seventh not long after though, with Euan Borland calmly lifting the ball over the keeper from a difficult angle on the baseline. Another good performance from the Wanderers which earned them a comfortable 3 points, to move them further up the league. |
