Match Report |
With new coach Scot Warden in place the second game of Wanderers preseason got underway with what looked liked the potential banana skin of Granite City this week’s opposition. With this fixture, a repeat of last years ill-tempered 2-2 preseason draw Warden was taking nothing for granted and left the boys in no doubt about what was expected. Wanderers opened the scoring in 5 minutes with a goal from Bobby Ralph but Granite City didn’t crumble under the early pressure and provided stout opposition before Fergus Sandison made it 2 with a fantastic solo run. James Weyers then added another from a corner and the teams changed ends with Wanderers 3 to the good. With a few shrewd words at the half Wardens Wanderers again took the game to Granite City and Euan Borland bulleted the forth into the roof of the Granite City net. Despite this, Granite City refused to lay down and but for some swift work from Paul Johnstone in the Wanderers goal the prize clean sheet would have been lost. As the half wore on Wanderers superior fitness told and Ross Glashan made it 5 before an excellent Francis Mulgrew rounded off the scoring to give Wanderers a deserved 6-0 victory. |
