Dundee Wanderers vs CALA Edinburgh

14/08/2010

The Wanderers’ pre-season continued with a double-header against National Two side CALA Edinburgh. Dundee Wanderers were looking for another solid win to ensure their pre-season progress stayed on a high.

Although the Wanderers had early opportunities to break the deadlock, it was the visitors that struck first. Sloppy passing around the back, coupled with miscontrolled balls, gifted the opposing forward an easy finish to put CALA one up. This spurred the Wanderers on though, who went on to score three before the half-time whistle.

In the second half the Dundee side stepped it up again, with smooth passing moves taken straight from the training ground, to solid displays at the back. The fast, energetic play was too much for CALA, who couldn’t keep out another three goals, which took the score to 6-1 to Wanderers. With all the chances that Wanderers created though, it could have been a lot more, but for some good saves from the goalkeeper.

A key factor in Dundee Wanderers game is their short corners, both attacking and defensive. It is clear they have spent a lot of time on the training ground refining their corner routines, as shown by the efficiency in which they carried out the various set-ups. They also did not concede a goal on a short corner, despite a good flicker at the top of the circle.

The Dundee Wanderers are looking strong so far, and look ready for the challenges of the teams at the top of the league.
