Ladies 1 Vs Grove

The biggest game of the year so far saw us play some great hockey but lose the game and look at our own contributions to our downfall as the main contributory factor. Oh and the goal the umpires chalked off again!!

We got off to a decent enough start without controling the game but as early as the 6th minute we had a chance to take the lead but Vikki blazed a reverse shot over the bar. They were awarded a corner which Carmin saved and soon we got our first corner but were unable to trap the ball as it lifted off the line. On 20 minutes they were awarded another corner and despite saving the initial shot and two rebounds Ali Bell managed to get it over the line. Despite this we were still in the game and right on the stroke of half we turned the ball over in our own 25 and they scored to go 2 - 0 up.

Not long into the second half Vikki intercepted a ball around half way fed JB and with Vikki and Amy working off Julies shoulder it was an easy pass a reverse cross and Heather slotted home for 2 - 1. Now starting to control the game more and from a free hit at the top of the D Julie drove hard at the circle raised her stick to shoot and as the ball nestled in the bottom corner we were awarded a short corner?? Corner saved still 2 - 1 down. It didnt take long however for Julie to use the 5 yard rule to work us up the pitch lay it off to Amy and she fired home to equalise 2 - 2.

It looked like it would stay this way even though we were stronger at that time until a long ball through took a cruel deflection to their young striker who hit it first time for their winner. Their reaction said it all they had snatched a very unlikely win in the last 2 mins of the game.

Our reaction was just as telling we had let them win and knew we could easily have been celebrating ourselves. Good game but we must learn to start better keep the intensity up for 70 mins and not switch off. Two outdoor games left 6 points needed.
