Match Report | A big day and a chance to prove that we have what it takes to beat one of the big 2. From the start it didnt look great and for the first 5 minutes we were on the back foot having to defend and save a corner in only the second minute. Slowly we started to come into the game and exert some pressure on them and this was rewarded with a shot from Vikki which was well saved and a corner which Rachel crashed into their number 1 runner. Despite now being the better side and looking in control the managed to take the lead from a corner saved by Carmin but not cleared by our defenders and they scrambled the ball over the line. It looked like we had equalised only 2 minutes later when Julie managed to get the ball into their goal but the far side umpire had seen an earlier foul and dissallowed it. HT one down but showing enough to suggest we could win the game. We were right back in it after only 2 minutes when Vikki flicked a corner which they saved only for it to loop to Heather who volleyed it home to equalise. From here the pressure just grew and grew and within the space of 2 minutes we twice managed to put Amy away on the right find Vikki and have a reverse shot just go wide. We kept at them and in the 48th minute Ozzy played a ball to Jen whoo fed Amy and she smashed us into the lead from close in. The final nail in their coffin came from a well worked corner endig up with Heather deflecting the ball home for a 3- 1 lead. There was still 18 minutes to play but they were unable to put any real pressure on our back line which was great all day and although we created a few more good chances they managed to hold on. A very satisfying first ever win over Western, but well deserved and something we can build on and take confidence from. |
