Match Report | Putting last weeks defeat firmly behind them Coach Strachan reminded the team that any aspirations of splitting the top 2 rested on them winning this game. Right from the start this was a different performance to the nervy one that opened the season. In the second minute a great linking move saw Vikki put Heather in with only one to beat which she did with ease then placed it deftly into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance. It was starting to look great as we won a corner in the 4th minute but Rachel Russels shot was well saved and cleared. The second corner saw a lovely planned move finish with Heather Elder deflecting in for 2 - 0 and the start of a purple patch. In a 5 minute spell leading up to the 30th minute the front four linked brilliantly for Vikki to tap in at the far post twice and Julie Bryce to slot a fierce shot to the bottom corner and end match as a contest. Not happy at 5 - 0 Vikki completed a hat trick on the 34th minute after some slick passing from Julie and Heather so 6 - 0 at the half . With the game won we took our foot off the gas a touch probably thinking of our short squad and another game on Sunday, and although we dominated throughout it was never quite as slick as the first half. CALA managed to bumble a ball over the line not long after the restart to get it to 6 - 1, but Heather completed her hat trick 10 mins into the half from a great pass from Julie to bring it to 7 - 1. Cala did have a chance when they were awarded a stroke but managed to hit the post. This just spurred us on and we stormed up the pitch with some great passing and Jullie put Vikki in to flick high over the keeper and move the score to 8 - 1. Chances followed and Amy had a great deflection brilliantly saved and a chance or two just not converted stopped us reaching double figures. Late on CALA found another consolation from a long ball and well struck shot. A great display putting 8 past CALA and setting the benchmark for future performances. |
