Saturday, 12th Septemeber brought the start of the new season for wanderers ladies 1st XI at Dalnacraig. The national 1 side were up against a tough clydesdale western. Despite odds being stacked against the home side, they pulled an incredible team performance out the bag to take away three points to get them off to a fantastic start to the season.
Wanderers' first goal was from Jess Ross. After receiving the ball from new wanderer, Ruth Blaikie, Jess took on the western defence with some fantastic 3D skills before taking a shot at goal which was saved by the keeper but Jess was quick to react to the rebound, lifting the ball over the keepers legs.
The second goal for the dundonians came from returning wanderer, Amy Snelle (nee Rowan). At a short corner, Becky Ward's shot was saved with the ball falling to Snelle who was waiting at back post. Amy then took a reverse sweep shot, sending the ball cross goal, passed the keeper into the side netting. This put wanderers two goals up going into the second half.
After the break, wanderers came back out knowing Clydesdale were going to try and pull it back but the taysiders weren't going to let them and before long they had sealed their victory and the three points with a third and final goal. This came from Vikki Bunce with a cracking reverse stick shot.
Due to having no keeper, defender, Megan Potter put on the kit and stepped between the posts. Subsequently, Megan was voted man of the match. Next up on the ladies national league campaign is a double header. Taking on western wildcats away on the Saturday, followed by Watsonians at home on the Sunday.
