Match Report | Following their victory over Perth 2s the previous week, the 3s travelled to St Andrews to take on the difficult task of beating Madras. Due to umpiring commitments the 3s started with only 10 men, yet despite this they quickly went one up following a Gregor Pearson PC strike. Their joy was short-lived as Madras pulled one back to draw level. Part way during the first half the 11 man appeared and the 3s took full advantage and put the Madras defence under significant pressure. A number of PCs were awarded but none extended the lead. The second half opened with the score at 1-1 but the 3s continued to apply pressure, although the speed of the Madras forward line was causing some concern. Early on following a through ball by Mark Kane, the 3s extended their lead following a goal by Mark Walker. This lead was very short lived as Madras equalised only a minute later following an excellent solo effort by Andy Gillespie. Despite this the 3s continued to pressure the Madras defence and were rewarded for their efforts when Jack, on his 3s début, forced the ball across the line following an initial save by the Madras keeper. The game ended with a 3-2 win for the 3s, keeping their 100% record intact. However a sterner test awaits next week with Harris 3s. Thanks to Jenny Gerrard from her excellent umpiring. |
